I’ve auditioned the Graham Slee Solo Ultra-Linear DE headphone amp for two months now & frankly, I’m more impressed with its sound with each listen. The Solo has an expansive quality that compliments my Icon Audio PS3 tube phono-pre very nicely.
As much as I love tubes, I didn’t want the sound coloured by consecutive tube components. The Solo fits the bill perfectly. It maintains the pinpoint accuracy & articulation of the PS3 sound stage without adding noise or coldness that I sometimes associate with solid state components.
The manual suggests to leave the unit on & I have noticed the benefits of that (there’s no power switch, so if you want to turn it off, it needs to be unplugged).
The headphones I use are the Dan Clark ÆON 2 Noire closed-back model and Sennheiser IE 900 In-Ear’s. The Solo made it difficult to pick a favorite as each headset brought out so many textures & details, I’ve been going back & forth ever since.
There’s no question that I’m very happy with my Solo DE purchase & look forward to many years of blissful & fatigue-free listening sessions.
